Jack the Ripper will walk the streets of London once more in this dark psychological thriller from Thunderball Films, based on the spectacuar novel by Brian L Porter. Thunderball has recently acquired the Motion Picure/TV rights to Porter's novel.

PRLog (Press Release) – Dec 22, 2008 – Thunderball Films LLC of Los Angeles, California has acquired the motion picture and television rights to the remarkable novel sensation, ‘A Study in Red – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper’ by award-winning author Brian L Porter. Published by Double Dragon Publishing of Markham, Ontario, this dark psychological thriller tells of the incredible and terrifying events that surround psychiatrist Robert Cavendish when he inherits a decrepit, yellowed journal that appears to have been written by the infamous Whitechapel Murderer, who terrorised the streets of the East End of London in 1888. Filled with dramatic imagery and an underlying sense of foreboding and danger, the novel will certainly lend itself well to the transformation from page to screen.

Executive producer Mario Domina will be in charge of the task of overseeing the books’ metamorphosis from novel to movie and the author is quoted as saying that he is “Absolutely thrilled and delighted to be given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see his work evolve into a piece of cinematic history.”

Story Summary Robert Cavendish is bereft with grief at his father’s recent passing. He was also surprised to learn his father bequeathed Robert a mysterious journal to be read after his death. Read by him and him alone. As he reads the journal, he comes to realize that he holds in his hands the actual rantings and admissions of Jack the Ripper! But that, as they say, is only the beginning. From those pages Robert discovers the answer to old mysteries and atrocities, answers that lead him down a path of horror and insanity. What affect can the secret ravings of a murderer such as Jack the Ripper have on a person? And what connection did Robert’s father have to this secret journal?

Opinion
I was immediately struck by the enormous amount of research that went into A Study in Red (The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper). It brought 18th century London to life, making the story almost palpable. For over a hundred years, the mystery of Jack the Ripper has been investigated, written about, and discussed, but never like this. I could feel the cobblestones under my feet, hear the horses and carriages and smell the foul air of the London back alleyways.

The journal was an interesting tool, bringing the reader directly into Jack’s world and the insanity inflicting him. Experiencing the journal with Robert was intense as the mysteries unfold page by page. The suspense kept me engrossed well into the late evening hours, just as Robert had… I can feel the goose bumps now.

The identity of Jack the Ripper has been explored, but never in such a deliciously nail biting manner. Although fiction, the possibilities of who Jack really was and where he came from as well as his unfortunate victims felt all too real thanks to the obvious hard work of the author to create this sensational tale.

DRACULA DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE benefits from the author's careful research woven with creativity and flair. The author brings his characters to life in such a prolific way that you feel like you are sitting right next to them in a drafty inn in a Romanian village.

A new twist on a classic tale.

Happily, the solid, unpredictable story and well detailed characterization are well worthy of anyone's time and definitely deserves a 4 Klover rating.

Mr. Porter carries through on the promise of his earlier works, delivering plot twists and elements of amazing imagination in a collection of stories that will entertain, provoke thought and satisfy. I recommend this as a refreshing read for both sci-fi fans and people like me who have not read much in that genre.
